Introduction

Star Surface Activator is formulated for use as a conditioning rinse for iron, stee1, wine and inc alloy surface, which are to be subsequently phosphated. It eliminates the coarse cryatalline coating sometimes obtained on Bench surface, as well as on iron and steel surface, which have been acid pickled or cleaned with strong alkalis. It promotes the formulations of the dense and fine Micro Crystalline phosphate coating which is preferred for paint and which has better corrosion resistance.

Bath Preparation

The conditioning solution is generally prepared by adding star surface activator Powder 2.0 to 2.5 Kg. per 1000 liters of water, however, in some utances higher concentration is more desirable. The best concentration for any installation depends an many factors such as kind of metal being treated. type of cleaning employed and particular phosphating chemical being used. The bath is ready for use aa soon as it ia thoroughly mixed.

Testing Parameters

1. Check pH (8.0 - 10.0)
2. Pointage - Pipette 25 ml solution of Pagan SC Accelerator L-4 in a conical flask 4 drop bromophenol blue indicator solution. Titrate with N/IG sulfuric acid. End point in color change from blue to yellowish consumed mi. of acid in the point age.
Point age Range (2.5-4.5 ml.)

Bath Operation & Control

The star surface activator is generally used at room temperature. Star surface activator should not be kept above 40°C in any case, its life will be longeot when it is used at room temperature below 40°C. pH of the bath should not fall below 8 for good results.
